Chapter Fourteen

After Justin left, Tareth was unable to sleep. He was clearly upset about the attack on the other werewolf. The bond between them allowed her to feel his agitation as clearly as she would have her own emotions. She didn’t know what to do or say to comfort him, and that bothered her. She should have been there for him. With those thoughts running through her mind, she shouldn’t have been surprised that sleep eluded her for the last couple of hours. She had fallen asleep so early the night before that the only surprise was she hadn’t awakened sooner.

She would have to be very careful about taking the painkillers if they had that much of an effect on her.

She got up and showered, careful to keep her weight on her good ankle, then wrapped her robe around herself and limped into the living room. At that hour, most of the TV channels were showing infomercials, so she went to her computer instead.

Justin had mentioned that one of his pack had been attacked a few days earlier. Tareth did a search for news stories about an attack in Boston within the past week. There were, of course, a few. There always were fights and assaults in the city. But the victims were all men, and she’d had the sense that the person Justin had spoken about was female.

Maybe werewolves didn’t like being on the news.

She did a search for werewolves and was met with millions of results. Everything from articles to books to movies. She read some of the articles. Their descriptions of werewolves and what they might be capable of made her shiver. Certainly nothing she read sounded like Justin. The articles presented werewolves as bloodthirsty animals, and Justin was nothing like that. Neither was Chal, as far as she’d been able to tell. They were both good men, calm men. She trusted them.

Maybe trusting werewolves meant she was crazy. She didn’t think so. Justin had earned her trust. If he’d wanted to hurt her, he would have done so when he’d chased her in the woods.

She stopped skimming articles and checked her emails. There wasn’t anything of interest there. If Justin hadn’t left, she would have gone back to bed and seduced him. Just the thought made her wet. She’d fallen asleep too soon the night before and had missed her chance. Now the thoughts of what they could have been doing filled her mind.

She made a slow progress back to the bedroom and slipped off the robe, then lay down on her bed and slipped her hand between her legs. With her eyes closed, she imagined Justin above her, pressing his finger hard against her clit. Pinning her to the bed with his other hand.

Tareth had never thought of herself as the submissive sort, but the idea of Justin taking control of her, holding her down and doing whatever he wanted, turned her on more than any other fantasy she’d had about him. As she rubbed
